Thoughts on Communication
Communication is universal. There are many different types like visual, verbal, written, etc. This is a key part of society, people rely on communication for learning, relationships, work, practically everything. While it is important to everyone, people respond to different forms of communication differently. This is important to advertisers, politicians campaigning, volunteers raising awareness. It is important to know what communication works best or has been most successful. Communication, in all forms, helps to people day-to-day.
Written communication can educate or entertain. Examples of this form of communication are books, posters, letters, and poetry. Poetry particularly stands out because of its repetition. This keeps the poem connected and allows an emphasis to be put on an idea or phrase. Repetition is also often used in verbal and audio communication as well. Songs, radio ads, television commercials, and automated telephone calls often use repetition to keep the audience drawn in, to give information (such as a phone number), and to make their content memorable. Visual communication often uses repetition as well. This can be seen in fonts, colors, patterns, alignments. Repetition in visual media creates a uniform look.
There are many necessary elements that go into visual communication. Font, color, images and alignment all work together to create a cohesive and readable piece. Color tends to stand out. People are drawn to certain colors, like for example how most social media apps' icons are blue. This is a purposeful choice made by the creators. Colors can evoke certain feelings in people, for example red is associated with love, lust, and evil. These are very different associations but when color works together with other elements the emotion or idea will be apparent.
Certain companies and brands have logos that stand out for their strength. One example is the Dove Soap logo.
Crunchyroll is an anime streaming site. They use the colors orange and black, which can be associated with joy and death respectively. These are two large staples in anime. Also, there is an eye beside the company name that seems to be modeled after an anime eye. This shows the viewer what they provide. Crunchyroll's logo is simple, effective, and strong.
